Prehistory at Portella – Salina

The archaeological site, which is exceptionally beautiful and well-conserved, was erected on a steep volcanic ridge that can be crossed by foot through a long stairway from which to admire panoramic views of the horizon.

Here you can visit a village from the Middle Bronze Age (15th-13th century B.C.) of the culture of the Milazzese, which is very special because of its extraordinarily sheltered position.

The huts are ovular and circular, about 3-4 meters in diameter, entirely excavated out of the volcanic rock (lapillo) and line throughout the perimeter by a dry stone wall constructed with large rocks from the sea and volcanic rocks.
